Dress Code
We have a strict dress code to protect your children and our equipment. Please do not wear any of following on clothing: Zippers, Buttons, Velcro, Sequins, or Jewelry (small stud earrings are ok). If your child is wearing any of these items, they will not be able to fully participate.
We also require tight fitting active wear. Leotards for girls with tights/leggings over them are ideal. For boys, we recommend athletic pants, tights, or compression pants and a tight fitting shirt. All shirts must be tucked in.
Please make sure your child’s nails (both toes and fingers) are clipped with no jagged edges, as jagged or long nails can tear equipment.
We will be doing some circus activities that require closed-toed shoes, so please wear closed-toed shoes to each and every day of camp.
Pull long hair back and secure it out of your face into a ponytail or braids for ALL circus camps. Hair easily wraps around the apparatuses and gets “stuck”. This is dangerous and quite painful. Please ensure hair is set before arriving at the gym. We do not provide free hair ties. If a student arrives without appropriate hair, we ask the student to sit out and watch.
When a student comes without the appropriate required clothing, the student will be asked to sit out and watch. (There are NO exceptions to this.) Your student’s safety on the equipment is the most important thing to us.
In addition to Dress Code
- Remove your jewelry. If a piercing is non-removable, tape it appropriately during the class. Small earrings are fine.
- Do not wear Zippers or Buttons or Velcro. These tear the equipment.
- We do not allow long nails on any aerial equipment. It is a safety issue. It also damages the aerial equipment.
- Please wear appropriate clothing to and from the studio. This means shoes and jackets or sweatshirts over leotards in the colder months. It also means cover-ups in the warmer months. Muscles dislike sudden temperature changes. Also, it is unhealthy to go outside in a leotard top only in colder weather. Healthy students are a priority!
Bring to Camp
- One lunch and two snacks (no nut products, please). Food is not provided for the children, so please send your child with snacks and lunch for the day. There is no access to microwaves or refrigerators.
- A reusable (non-disposable) water bottle
- A smile!
Arriving Late to Camp
If parents are running late, it is their responsibility to call the camp phone at 762-217-0846
If a student arrives late to camp, they must complete a coach prescribed warm-up prior to joining the rest of the group on an apparatus.
Drop Off & Pick Up
Drop off is between 9:45-10:00am each day. Pick up is between 3:45-4:00pm Monday – Thursday.
On Fridays, pick-up is after our Grand Finale Showcase*, and students are released immediately following the showcase.
*Grand finale showcase happens between 2:15-3:00pm on Fridays. Everyone is welcome to come, however we do have limited seating. Doors will open at 1:45pm. Camp officially ends upon the completion of your child’s showcase.
Please plan on meeting a staff member outside to check in your child and to answer a few questions when you drop off your child on Monday morning at the start of the camp week.
A staff member will be outside to check in each camper for drop off, so please escort your child to the door each morning. Also, we will have a staff member outside to meet the parents for pick up to check your child out.
We ask that a parent or guardian check their child both in and out of camp.
We offer Pre-care Monday through Friday from 8-10am. We offer After-care Monday through Thursday from 4-6pm. You can sign up for these through your parent portal. If we do not have sign ups for pre-care or after-care by Sunday evening prior to your camp week, we will not offer it for that week of camp.
If parents are running late, it is their responsibility to call the camp phone at 762-217-0846
If you arrive before 9:45am, you will be required to wait outside with your child. If you arrive later than 4:00pm to pick up your child, we will charge for after-care. If you are late to pick up from aftercare, we charge $1 per minute after 6pm.
Safety and Health Policies
It is the parent’s duty to alert the coaches to any health conditions. This includes physical, mental, or emotional conditions. This allows us to coach your child more effectively. Safety is of the utmost importance to us. We ask each child to have a physical exam prior to participating if there are health concerns.
Do not send sick children to camp.
Colds, flu, and other contagious diseases occur frequently and spread easily among children. To minimize the possibility of contagion, please keep your child at home if you observe any of the following symptoms.
Nasal discharge that is green or yellow. Complaints of ear pain. Persistent heavy cough. Severe sore throat. Eyes that are pink, burning, itching, or producing discharge. Diarrhea or vomiting. Fever.
If we observe these symptoms or other conditions deemed contagious in your child during camp, we call you and expect you to pick up your child immediately.
If your child is sick during their camp week, email us at info@akrosphere.com and we will see if we can place your child in an alternate week of camp.
Fever.
When your child has a fever, please keep him/her at home until your child is fever free for 72 hours without medication. If there are any lingering signs of illness, please keep your child at home. This ensures that the illness has passed and that your child is well enough to resume class activities the following week.
We require all students to be 72-hours fever free, and 72-hours vomit free before returning to camp.
If your child is sick during their camp week, email us at info@akrosphere.com and we will see if we can place your child in an alternate week of camp.
The safety of our students is a priority. If a student becomes injured during camp, all activity stops and the incident is documented. In case of a serious injury, the we immediately call the parents and 911.
Responsibility of Parents and Students
We believe that children’s success depends on the support of their parents or guardians. Your commitment to the process makes an enormous difference. We encourage you to be part of your child’s circus education.
Our program relies on a positive atmosphere for our faculty, our student participants, and their parents. It promises a positive learning experience for all involved. We expect cooperation between all parents. Showing respect for the other parents, students, and faculty, makes an important impression on the children. You are a role model for your child in how to interact with others.
Parents and teachers sometimes look at learning from different perspectives. However, they share a common goal. It is that every child receives the best possible training, both physically and mentally. Mutual respect between our faculty and our students’ parents provides the children with the ultimate care and education.

- Please be prompt in checking in and out your child from camp. Students must remain inside the building while waiting to be checked out.
- Ensure to label shoes, bags, etc with student’s full name.

Behavior Policies
We vow to educate our students, model behaviors, and help students grow with love and respect in this program. If for any reason a student does not meet the expectations outlined above, Akrosphere enforces a 3-strike policy with regard to students misbehaving at the studio.
- Strike 1 is a warning. The student may participate in class.
- Then, Strike 2 is an in-class time-out. We ask the student to sit to the side of the classroom and observe. The coach determines the length of time for the time-out.
- Finally, Strike 3 is when we ask the student to leave the classroom to sit in the lobby until class is finished. In the case of a Strike 3, the coach arranges a time to talk to both student and parent about behavior issues.
THE THREE-CLAP RULE:
Coaches may choose to initiate a three-clap rule. This is particularly useful for re-gathering attention after a water break or after group work. The coach claps three times in a rhythm and students repeat the claps back. This signals quiet voices and attention to the coach.

Akrosphere: Training in Aerial Silk, Trapeze, Cyr Wheel, Lyra, & More
A note from Jen, “Head Monkey Wrangler” of Akrosphere Aerial & Circus Arts:
Surely, every coach at Akrosphere has been asked that almighty question in any Level 1 class, “What do you have to do to move up to Level 2?”. We get asked almost every week by our oh so eager aerial silk students. Besides learning a very comprehensive 3 page syllabus of skills vocabulary, there’s one thing missing most of the time that prevents a student from moving up: aerial silk strength. Notably, how does one get that strength? Pull-ups, baby! Obviously, no one LIKES doing them. However, they’re the Holy Grail of aerial silk conditioning, so the sooner little Jenny starts working on them at home, in class, and in Open Gym, BOOM! Her strength is going to sky rocket and send her up to Level 2 that much faster. Don’t believe me? Check out this blog post by aerial silk queen and blog diva, Laura Witwer of SassyPants Aerial Arts! She says:
As an addendum to my previous post about circus being durned hard, I wanted to address one very concrete thing you can do TODAY to begin to ramp up your aerial silk training. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you (cue confetti canons)… the Humble Pull-Up. That’s right – hauling yourself up and down using your superty-buff arms is my number one essential training tool, and it should be a part of your regular training at least every other day.
A matter of discipline
Obviously, I’m aware that you hate pull-ups. Truly, I don’t leap out of bed every morning shrieking, “YAAAAY! I get to do some pull-ups today!!!!” either. Thing is, it doesn’t matter whether or not you hate them – you just have to do them. I’m willing to bet that one of the biggest reasons you hate them is because they’re really tough and they hurt and you stink at them. Am I right? It’s OK! Understandably, they’re tough; they hurt, and it’s OK that you stink at them. Besides, that will change. Undeniably, train them, and they will stink so, so much less. First, you’ll do one, then another, then another, until you are kickin’ some serious aerial silk tushie.
A matter of skill
Notably, a solid 75% of aerial silk work hinges on variations of the pull-up. It’s that foundational. Undoubtedly, you can crank out some reasonably solid aerial silk work without being able to do a traditional up and down, but you’re cheating yourself in a huge way. Without reservation, I can tell you this: in all my years of performance, I have NEVER worked with a professional aerial silk artist who couldn’t do a pull-up. Additionally, the very idea is absurd. In truth, if you are serious about moving beyond the realm of student or amateur, get to work. TODAY.
A matter of safety
However, it’s not just a matter of strength; it’s also a matter of aerial silk safety. Unsurprisingly, many of you have had the panic-inducing experience of getting into a bad knot on your aerial silk, or finding yourself below your trapeze or hoop with little reserves to get back up. In essence, this is where your aerial silk (or any apparatus) training – the muscle memory, the strength building, the endurance drills – is absolutely essential. Specially, it could mean the difference between a successful recovery to a safe position on your aerial silk and a nasty injury for you (or someone else if you’re working with a partner).
To conclude, be responsible and do the work, even if you hate it.
