“When I first walked through the Akrosphere doors, I was amazed by several aspects of the gym. I was amazed at their massive collection of circus apparatus which I knew nothing about. As a complete newcomer to the world of circus, I should have felt awkward, isolated, and incredibly overwhelmed. But what also amazed me was that I felt none of these feelings so common to new experiences.
Though I was surrounded by people who possessed an experience level exponentially greater than mine, without exception they made me feel as though I too had been flying through the air all my life. It was more than a warm, inviting welcome; it was a sense of being instantly accepted with no initiation or induction asked for.
Equally amazing was that, not only were the staff and students there incredibly welcoming, they also approached circus in a way that struck me as both bold and surprisingly obvious.
The coaches at Akrosphere approach circus, not just as a series of flips and spins, but rather as a form of art with the goal of communicating some meaning.
They don’t cram routines with every insane move in existence, but rather use whatever is appropriate for the artistic moment they are trying to create. Not only does this create a more engaging product, but it also teaches students about creating artistic works on whichever apparatus they may be working on.
Akrosphere is a truly special place: a haven for art and kindness where the students are encouraged to be themselves and learn to fly.” — David; age 16
“I’ve seen a kindness in these people that lets you know they truly care and enjoy making a difference in a child’s life in such a positive way!” — Leah; Autumn’s mom

A note from Jen, “Head Monkey Wrangler” of Akrosphere Aerial & Circus Arts:
Quick question: Do you wish your child was in love with an activity that…
- Is athletic yet is non-competitive
- Increases their self-confidence and self-esteem
- Enhances goal-setting, problem-solving, and creativity
- Improves team and social skills
- Increases academic focus
…?
Be honest, there’s 5 things in that list, how many of them did you think ‘yep’ to? What’s your score? You see, most activities cover 1, maybe 2 of those. That’s the very reason most activities aren’t as beneficial as circus training for kids.
Circus instruction not only motivates children to exercise, but it also develops numerous other abilities beyond the physical. Aka Awesomeness. And in the real world where students are expected to navigate tons of assignments while withstanding social pressure – well they need all the tools they can get. The best way to help them manage all of that is to give them the tools.
Sounds hard, right?
Well it’s not difficult but it does “take some doing”, as my dad used to say..
Luckily, it’s all right there in our Circus Classes…and the best part? They don’t even know they’re learning all that.
They just think it’s delicious fun.
