Bring A Friend Week!

Drew Feely & Lindsey Marro

It’s Bring a Friend week here at Akrosphere! We know circus can be so wonderful as an individual practice, but as we get ready to launch out of summer mode (haven’t you enjoyed learning things we don’t teach during the regular class blocks!?!) it’s always nice to have another moment of “play!” It’s always really fun to be able to share our love of circus with others. So as you show your friends the ropes this week (maybe even literally-ha) remember to stress safety and strength with them. Your instructors will help you guide them through different skills, but I’ll bet you might be surprised how challenging it might be for them. Remind them to be patient with themselves as you had to be patient with yourself in the beginning while you were building strength. Above all, have a great time!

See you (and your friends) this week in the gym!

Picture Week is Here!

Picture week is here! We are so excited to see all of the beautiful photos you create this week.
What do they say, a picture worth a thousand words? Well, here at Akrosphere it more likely means a thousand pushups, hundreds of stretches, and countless hours of hard work!
We cannot wait to showcase some of your prettiest poses this week! So be sure to show up rested and ready to rock and roll in front of the camera!

Most of all, remember to breathe and have a great time creating circus photo magic!

Lights, Camera, PHOTOS!

5 Reasons a Notebook is so important!

Here at Akrosphere we require students to bring a notebook to every class? Why is that you may ask? Well, here are five reasons a physical notebook is so important for your circus training!

  1. Writing things down helps you remember them! Note taking demands interaction with the material you just covered instead of just listening to it, and the best part about circus is. You can learn the move, review the move, write down the move, and then well, you see the picture now? It’s going to help you remember so much better!
  2. You remember better when you read on actual paper. There are studies that show that there are higher percentages of people who remember better when they read off of actual paper, as opposed to off of a screen.
  3. Too much screen time can cause tired eyes and headaches. We all know there are so many screens around us these days. Our lives are slowly becoming consumed by them. So compounding the fact that you will learn and remember the material better, you’ll also save your eyes some strain!
  4. You can review on your own and revisit things you’ve learned during open gym. It’s wonderful to be able to bring your notebook with you to class and to open gym. That way when you are reviewing things, you have all your notes right at your fingertips, and the more you practice the better and stronger you will become!
  5. See your progress! Why not write down the date alongside the moves you are learning in class? That way at the end of the year you can look back and see all the amazing progress you have made in class!

We’ll see you with notebook in tow this week!

Water, water, everywhere!

Hydration is so important for healthy exercise.

Often when you are hanging from silks, or lyra, or rope you will find yourself sweating, because let’s face it, Circus is HARD WORK! When your body sweats, you lose fluid. So you need to be drinking water regularly to replace that fluid!

That means drinking water before, during, and AFTER your class!  This is one reason we stress how important it is to bring your water bottle to every single class. If you are not hydrated your body cannot perform at its best! So next time you are feeling a bit fatigued during class, why not take a quick water break to replenish all those essential nutrients. Your body and your coach with thank you!

Hope to see you sweating in the gym this week!
